Damaged, Frozen, or Non-Ideal Conditions

Tuna identification is made more difficult when the fish are damaged or frozen, since that can result in changes to fin shape, body proportion, and coloration. Remember, do not rely on a single distinguishing feature, but instead look at multiple features for identification. Correctly identifying these species, especially when the individuals are in less than ideal condition, is difficult and requires practice.
